Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa will meet for a must-win clash in Matchday 5 of the Premier League, set for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on the early afternoon of Saturday 19 September. Kick-off at 13:30.

Form

Tottenham extended their winless and scoreless streak in this Premier League season to four matches when they were held 0-0 at home by Everton this past weekend. They are placed 17th on the log, just one point above the relegation zone.

Villa, meanwhile, find themselves in the relegation zone (19th) after they suffered a third defeat from four matches, going down 1-2 at home to Nottingham Forest this past weekend.

Team news

Spurs will be in midweek League Cup action against Liverpool, with the following players absent: Mykhailo Mudryk, Dejan Kulusevski, Wilson Odobert and Xavi Simons. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are both doubtful.

Villa will be in midweek League Cup action away to Coventry City, with the following players definitely sidelined: Ian Maatsen, Pau Torres, Leon Goretzka, Amadou Onana, Brian Madjo and Modou Cisse. Matty Cash, though, could return for the trip to Tottenham, while Joao Gomes will be available again after serving a suspension.

Head-to-head

Tottenham and Villa have met in 175 matches across all competitions. Spurs have claimed 79 wins compared to 62 for the Birmingham side, while 34 games have been drawn.

The teams met three times last season, with the visitors emerging victorious on each occasion: Villa win 2-1 in London in both an October 2025 Premier League match and a January 2026 FA Cup tie, while Spurs won 2-1 at Villa Park in the return league match in May 2026.

Quotes

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi: "It is not a tough moment. A tough moment was last season in Sunderland when we were close to relegation. Now is one of the moments in football when you are rebuilding a team. We played very well in the first 30 minutes, then we lost energy because our physical condition is not the best. We are working for that."
