Hailing from South Africa, Kieron Van Wyk hopes for better fortunes from the last time he featured at the PGA Puerto Rico Open as he prepares to tee off at the Grand Reserve Golf Course later this week.
What to know about Kieron Van Wyk
Still only 24, Van Wyk turned professional last year following a largely promising amateur career.
As an amateur, Van Wyk won the Schenkel Invitational and CAA Championship in 2022, putting the golfing world on notice. Subsequently, the Ruimsig-born star won the Harry Oppenheimer Trophy and Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in 2023, along with the CAA Championship and White Sands Bahamas Collegiate the following year.
Van Wyk came alive in 2025 after securing the APGA Farmers Insurance Invitational and Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate titles, respectively.
Van Wyk is also a three-time CAA Golfer of the Year and a four-time All-CAA First Team golfer as an amateur.
However, Van Wyk showed the most promise at the 2025 PGA Puerto Rico Open, where he finished tied for fourth at -19.
What did he say
Speaking at the recent Jonsson Workwear Durban Open, Kieron Van Wyk said he will build as much confidence as possible while playing in South Africa ahead of his return to the United States.
“I’m taking a lot of confidence from this (Jonsson Workwear Durban Open and SA Open)," Van Wyk said.
“As I end off my season, I’ll head back to America to play over there.
“So yes, just taking it day by day, tournament by tournament.”
