After returning to winning ways in La Liga this past weekend, Atletico Madrid are scheduled to face Real Oviedo in their next league game, set to commence at Estadio Carlos Tartiere on Saturday.
While Atletico targets a place in European competition for next season, Oviedo faces a different circumstance as they battle the relegation zone heading into the second-half of the 2025/26 campaign.
Real Oviedo are currently 20th in La Liga on 17 points from 24 matches, recording just three wins all season. Along with their discouraging form, Oviedo has suffered 13 occasions and are seven points from safety.
Atletico on the other hand, are fourth with 48 points after 25 games played, six points ahead of fifth placed Real Betis.
Oviedo’s most recent league outing was a 3–3 draw with Real Sociedad, preceded by a 2-1 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao. Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid arrives on away grounds in better spirits after a 4–2 win over Espanyol, where Alexander Sorloth (2), Giuliano Simeone and Ademola Lookman scored at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday.
Oviedo's form sheet has not made for a good reading of late, considering their run of three losses, one draw and one defeat in their previous five while Atletico Madrid recorded two wins, a set of defeats and one stalemate during the same period.

Reflecting on Atletico’s season overall, Diego Simeone expressed his delight at the Spanish giants' advancements heading into the month of March.
“We’re competing well in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey,” Simeone said after Atletico’s win over Espanyol.
“We’re far from the top in the league, but we’re trying not to slow down so we can finish as high as possible.
“I’m very happy with what the squad is doing at the moment.”
