Ghana will be looking to book their passage to the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup when they face Uruguay at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah on Friday, December 2.

The Black Stars are second in Group H, three points behind Portugal after picking up their first win at the tournament on Monday with a 3-2 success over South Korea.

Otto Addo's side led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu (24') and Mohammed Kudus (34') but the Taegeuk Warriors hit back through Cho Gue Sung's second-half brace to draw level.

However, Kudus struck again on 68 minutes to secure maximum points for the West Africans as they bounced back from a 3-2 defeat to Portugal on matchday 1.

Ghana were on the brink of becoming the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2020, only to be cruelly eliminated by the Uruguayans on penalties.

Luis Suarez denied the Black Stars a late winner in extra-time when he deliberately handled the ball on the line to concede a penalty, which Asamoah Gyan failed to convert.

Addo insists his team will not have revenge on their minds in this rematch, claiming it best to leave that incident in the past,

"I'm not a guy that thinks much of revenge," he said. "It was really, really long time ago that this incident happened and I am a strong believer if you don't seek too much revenge on these kind of things sometimes you get the blessings.

"It is a different approach, a different team. They have very good strikers, lots of experience and they are a very compact, very good team."

La Celeste bring up the rear in the group, having collected just one point from their opening two encounters.

Diego Alonso's team were held to a goalless draw by South Korea on matchday 1 before they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Portugal on Monday, with Bruno Fernandes bagging a second-half brace.

Uruguay need to win by a big margin to qualify for the knockout stages and hope the South Koreans don't cause an upset against the Selecao.

Alonso admits the South Americans need to take a gamble against the Black Stars after failing to find the back of the net in their first two games.

"We are looking for victory against Ghana, there is no doubt about it. If we have to make modifications, that is what we will do," he said. "We need to gamble more and to move more freely."

Commenting on the significance of meeting the Ghanaians at the global showpiece again, Alonso added: "For us, it's a different history. They are looking for classification, us too. It has nothing to do with what happened years ago."
