Phil Mickelson will be eager to make history when he competes in the 2021 AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

The American superstar and compatriot Mark O'Meara are the most successful golfers in the history of this tournament having won it a record five titles.

Mickelson is hoping to become the first golfer to win six AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this year.

The former world number one won his maiden title in 1998 after hiring American golf caddie and golf commentator Jim Bones Mackay as his caddie.

Mickelson then clinched his second title in 2005 as he secured a four-stroke victory over Canadian Mike Weir, whose 67 was the best final round by three strokes.

In 2007, Mickelson shared the lead after each of the first three rounds after opening ‪65-67-70 and closed with a 6-under 66 at Pebble Beach to win by five over Kevin Sutherland.

His fourth AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am title came in 2012 - winning the tournament by two strokes with a final-round score of 8-under 64 and a four-round total of 269.

The win marked his 40th career victory on the PGA Tour and he went on to finish tied for third at the Masters' Tournament in the same year.

In his third start of the 2019 calendar year, Mickelson won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, shooting a bogey-free final round 65 to defeat Paul Casey by three strokes.

The win was Mickelson's 44th career title on the PGA Tour, and his fifth at Pebble Beach, tying O'Meara for most victories in the event.

Mickelson feels that the new rule golf rule which was broadened in 2019 to allow golfers to repair any imperfections in the surface of the green has made the game more fun.

“I would say that the last changes they made, like being able to tap down spike marks, has made the game enjoyable,” Mickelson said.

“Especially the later tee times in the afternoon where inside six, seven feet it can be very bumpy, especially on poa annua like we had last week at Torrey Pines or next week at Pebble Beach.”
