Angelique Kerber will be eager to brush aside Aliaksandra Sasnovich in a 2022 Roland Garros third-round match on Friday.

The former world number one, who won her first clay title in six years on the eve of the Roland Garros, defeated France's Elsa Jacquemot 6-1, 7-6 (7/2) in the second-round clash on Wednesday.

Having won silver at the 2016 Olympic Games, Kerber is seeking the only Grand Slam missing from her collection having won the 2016 Australian Open, 2016 US Open and 2018 Wimbledon.

The German star was pleased with her fighting spirit following her win over Jacquemot and she stressed the importance of winning the recent 2022 Strasbourg Open where she faced Sasnovich.

"You have to fight in tennis, you know. I think it's part of the game, as well. Everyone can play tennis. In the end, it's just one, two points which decide matches," Kerber said.

"You know, I have it inside of me. If it's coming out of me, I'm playing always my best tennis, because I really want it. I think the last week was really important for me to get the title. I had a lot of confidence.

"It's great to be back here and I hope I can still play a few more matches. When you achieve everything you want, you play for the love of the game. I just love the sport. Let's see how long I can keep playing at a high level."

Meanwhile, Sasnovich is the underdog having reached the third round after defeating US Open champion Emma Raducanu of England 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in a second-round clash on Wednesday.

The Belarusian star had started her 2022 Roland Garros campaign with a win over Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in the first round encounter on Monday.

Sasnovich reached a grand-slam semifinal in doubles, at the 2019 US Open, together with Viktoria Kuzmova and she is now looking to establish herself as one of the best in the singles game.

Kerber and Sasnovich will meet for the third time in a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) event.

Kerber has an unbeaten record against Sasnovich having won their previous two meetings.

The two-time Roland Garros quarter-finalist defeated Sasnovich 6-2 3-6 6-4 in the 2022 Strasbourg Open second-round clash which remains their last meeting.
