England will be determined to end Italy's dominance over them when the two teams clash in the UEFA EURO 2020 final on July 11.

The two teams have previously met 27 times, with their first encounter taking place in 1933, a 1-1 draw in Italy's capital city, Rome.

Before the final, Italy have won ten of these meetings, England eight, and nine draws.

All four of their previous competitive meetings at major tournaments have been Italian victories.

They met in the group stage of Euro 1980, the third place play-off of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the quarter-finals of Euro 2012, and the group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Their most recent meeting was in London and it ended in a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match which was played in March 2018.

The encounter was played at England's iconic Wembley Stadium as Lorenzo Insigne's goal cancelled out Jamie Vardy's opening strike.

The last two matches between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw including an international friendly game which was played at the Allianz Stadium in Italy in March 2015.

Raheem Sterling, the England forward, says they are in the right direction after he helped his side overcome Denmark in the semi-finals.

"It was a top performance. We had to dig deep, it was the first time we had conceded in the tournament, we regrouped well and showed a great team spirit to win the game," Sterling said.

"We just had to stay patient. We knew that with the aggression we had in the team, the pace, the power, it was a matter of time before we brought them down and we got the penalty in the end.

"It is another step in the right direction. Once we stepped into the dressing room, that is it, over, and we focus on the weekend. Step by step, that's how we do it."
