The Return of the US Open!

New York, New York, the city that never sleeps is home to the final tennis major on the calendar, the US Open. An exciting fortnight awaits us!

Top seed, and world number 1, Jannik Sinner, will be looking to defend his crown after beating local favourite Taylor Fritz in the 2024 final.

Fritz will be wanting to go that extra mile and win the first major of his career. Sinner, the recent Wimbledon champion, has reached the finals of his last four majors and will be wanting to make it five straight major finals.

Spanish number 2 seed, Carlos Alcaraz, will be looking to win a 2nd US Open title and is definitely one of the favourites to go all the way. The young Spaniard will encounter stiff competition in his draw and could come up against the likes of Alexander Zverev, another local favourite Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur and let’s not forget Novak Djokovic, who will be sure to give it his all at the tender age of 38. Should both Sinner and Alcaraz reach the men’s final, this will only intensify their rivalry, a rivalry resembling that of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

On the ladies’ side, world number 1 and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, will also be looking to win her 2nd US Open title. Perhaps her closet rival is 2023 US Open champion, Coco Gauff, who defeated Sabalenka in that final as well as earlier this year in the Roland Garros final. Coco will definitely want to fly the American flag high and claim a second title.

Iga Świątek, fresh off her triumph at Wimbledon, against another American Amanda Anisimova, has also won this event, back in 2022, and is playing some scintillating tennis. She will be sure to give it everything she has as she tried to go back-to-back in Grandslams in 2025.

Some other notables to look out for in the coming 2 weeks is young Russian Mirra Andreeva, a star in the making, 2025 Australian Open Champion, Madison Keys and the Chinese number 1 Qinwen Zheng.
There will be a legend of the game, a former champion, who headlines the 2025 US Open wild card, in the form of Venus Williams.

At 45 years of age, she is still going strong and, with nothing to lose, will want to give it her absolute best as she nears retirement.

The 145th edition of the US Open is live from Flushing Meadows from 24 August to 7 September 2025. Catch all the action live and remember to play responsibly
