Tiger Woods will be eager to retain the Masters Tournament title at Augusta National Golf Club this week.

The American superstar is widely regarded as the greatest golfer ever and ranks second in men's major championships.

Woods, who is currently ranked 33rd in the world, secured his only win on the 2020 PGA Tour at the Zozo Championship in October 2019.

The win was Woods's 82nd on Tour, tying him with Sam Snead for the most victories all-time on the PGA Tour.

Last year's triumph at the Masters was Woods' first major championship win in eleven years and his 15th major overall.

The Cypress-born golfer finished 13 under par to win by one stroke over Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka.

At age 43, Woods became the second oldest golfer ever to win the Masters, after Jack Nicklaus who was 46 when he triumphed in 1986.

Woods is also the second most successful player in the history of the tournament having won five titles and only Nicklaus has more with six green jackets.

This year's tournament will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Woods is among a long list of players who have conceded that the lack of buzz from the fans has made it difficult for them to focus at times.

“It’s going to make a big difference to all of us. We just don’t have the same type of energy and the distractions," Woods said.

"There at Augusta National, you just have all those roars that would go up if somebody did something somewhere, and then scoreboard-watching and trying to figure out what’s going on

"There aren’t a lot of big leaderboards out there. So that will be very different.”

Last five Masters Tournament winners:

2015 - Jordan Spieth - USA
2016 - Danny Willett - England
2017 - Sergio Garcia - Spain
2018 - Patrick Reed - USA
2019 - Tiger Woods - USA
