Austrian Grand Prix

Round 4
Red Bull Ring
Spielberg, Austria
16 August 2020

Yamaha rider Maverick Vinales will be hoping to win the Austrian Grand Prix for the first time on August 16.

The Spaniard, who is a former Moto3 world champion, taking the title in 2013, has had a good start to the 2020 campaign.

However, Vinales finished fifth at last year's Austrian Grand Prix and he will be determined to finish in the podium in this year's race.

The race was won by Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso, who finished ahead of Marc Marquez of Honda and Fabio Quartararo.

Vinales' teammates Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli have also had a good start to the 2020 season as the trip eye the riders' world championship title.

Quartararo is sitting at the top of the riders' standings followed by Maverick Vinales and Franco Morbidelli thus far.

Vinales is coming off a disappointing race in the latest round of the 2020 season which was the Czech Grand Prix where he finished 14th on August 09.

The 25-year-old feels that he was lucky to finish 14th in Brno, but he believes he has picked up important points in the race for the riders' world championship title.

"In the race, since the first lap, it was impossible, [I had] a lot of spin [on the rear tyre]," Vinales said.

"Lap by lap it increased, and then at the end it was very unsafe to ride the bike. So, I tried to make my best as always, I tried to make my best. So that [14th] was the best we could do."

"For sure I think Yamaha is much more hurt than myself because it's difficult to finish in P14. "And I was very lucky, because if not, I don't even take one point," he added.

"So, these two points will count a lot in the championship. I didn't give up, I tried to push and not make any mistake."

Yahama are sitting at the top of Manufacturers' Championship standings - 26 points above their closest rivals, KTM.

KTM and Ducati are placed second and third respectively on the standings
