Fabio Quartararo will be keen to bounce back to winning ways at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi where he nearly tasted success two years ago.

The Yamaha rider came close to winning the 2019 Japanese MotoGP as he finished second having started third on the grid in a memorable race.

Quartararo endured a disappointing race in the most recent event in the 2022 campaign which was the Aragon MotoGP as he was forced to retire on September 18.

The French star was involved in a crash at high speed as he got struck by his own bike as it tumbled down the tarmac, leaving him with abrasions on his chest.

Ducati rider Enea Bastianini went on to win the Aragon MotoGP with his teammate Francesco Bagnaia and Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro finishing second and third respectively.

Quartararo remains at the top of the 2022 riders' standings with Bagnaia and Espargaro placed second and third respectively as the battle for the MotoGP world title continues.

The reigning MotoGP world title will consolidate his spot at the top of the standings if he wins the Japanese MotoGP with four races left in the current term.

"I have no serious injuries. I have abrasions on my chest, and other than that I‘m quite disappointed," Quartararo said after the Aragon MotoGP.

"I felt that we had the pace to fight for a great result, but unfortunately I crashed on the first lap. Some riders lost the rear, while others cut the line a little bit,

"And I just hit Marc from the back. It‘s a big shame. I‘ll try to sleep on my back the next few days, but I will for sure be racing in Japan."

Ducati are placed at the top of the Constructors' championship standings and they are followed by Aprilia and Yamaha respectively.
