2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 8

Brentford v Arsenal

Brentford Community Stadium
London, England
Sunday, 18 September 2022
Kick-off is at 15h00

Arsenal will look to put the disappointment of their first Premier League defeat of the season behind them when they head across town to Brentford on Sunday, September 18.

The Gunners saw their 100 per cent record in the league come to an end with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 4.

However, Mikel Arteta's side remain in pole position, one point ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham after winning their opening five games of the campaign.

Arteta handed new signing Fabio Vieira his debut against the Red Devils and believes the Portugal Under-21 international will make a big impact at the Emirates Stadium once he gets fully up to speed.

"Straight away, I was convinced that he was a player who can help us go to the next level and that he had the right personality and character to play for our club," the Spaniard said.

"It's a shame that we detected an injury when we were doing the medical. He had no pre-season and everything has been delayed, but hopefully you're going to see a lot more of him in the next few weeks, and I'm sure that you'll enjoy it."

The Bees arrested a three-match winless streak with a 5-2 hammering of Leeds in the capital last time out - their second victory of the season.

Ivan Toney bagged a hat-trick against the Whites to take his tally for the campaign to five goals, having also scored in the 2-2 draw with Leicester and the 3-2 loss to Fulham.

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank praised Toney for another outstanding display, admitting the striker doesn't always get the plaudits he rightfully deserves.

Asked whether he saw it as a complete performance from Toney, the Dane quipped: "He missed one, he could've scored a fourth goal, but close!

"But no, a lot of praise to Ivan. I said it in the dressing room to the boys, I can't remember if I've praised him in front of everyone before.

"Maybe when he got his first hat-trick against Norwich, but this time definitely. Normally, he scores goals and he's fantastic, but I praise others.

"But he truly, truly deserves it. Not only for this game but in general. His link-up play is so fantastic, his ability to press, drive the team, and then today he scored three goals."
