Gresini Racing's Enea Bastianini will attempt to keep his fading World Championship title hopes alive by finishing on the podium at the Thailand Grand Prix on Sunday, October 2.

The Italian is fourth in the riders' standings, 49 points behind current leader Fabio Quartararo after his P9 in the Japanese Grand Prix, having finished just behind the reigning world champion.

Bastianini claimed his fourth victory of the year in the Aragon Grand Prix on September 18 and he needs more of the same in the final four races to stand a chance of catching Quartararo.

'The Beast' admitted it was difficult to make up places in the opening laps after starting 15th on grid, while he dropped off the pace in the latter stages of the race at Motegi.

"For me, I think difficult because at the start it was important to me to recover some position and to use the soft tyre [...] because when you are behind the pressure of the front tyre coming up really early and after, it's difficult to overtake the other riders, especially on braking," he said.

"And also in the front of me, I have Pecco [Bagnaia] and Pecco we know break, really, and it's difficult. But after when I was without a lot of riders on the front was okay. I think [...] for the last part of the race I wasn't really fast. I think the drop is staying important on the last 10 laps of the time."
