2026/27 Premier League, Matchday 6
Coventry City vs Newcastle United
Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry
Monday 12 October, 21:00
Coventry City and Newcastle United will close out Matchday 6 in the Premier League with a potential thriller at the Coventry Building Society Arena on the evening of Monday 12 October, kick-off at 21:00.
Form
Coventry claimed their first Premier League win since promotion by defeating Nottingham Forest 1-0 away from home prior to the international break – with Jay Dasilva scoring the key goal. The Sky Blues are placed 18th on the log.
Newcastle have enjoyed a solid start to the season, suffering just one Premier League defeat to sit in ninth place. Their last match prior to the international break brought a 2-1 home win over Hull City – thanks to goals from Joe Willock and Lewis Hall.
Team news
Newcastle are set to welcome back Dan Burn, Jacob Ramsey, Amard Dedic, William Osula, Nico Gonzalez and Joelinton from their various issues, though Anthony Elanga is doubtful after picking up a thigh knock while representing Sweden.
Coventry are set to be boosted by returns for Luke Woolfenden, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Josh Eccles and Milan van Ewijk, while Taiwo Awoniyi (suspension), Haji Wright and Aurele Amenda are unavailable.
Head-to-head
Coventry and Newcastle have met in 68 matches across all competitions. The Magpies have claimed 34 wins compared to 18 for the Sky Blues, while 16 games have been drawn.
The teams last met in the 2009/10 EFL Championship, with Newcastle completing a league ‘double’, while their last Premier League meetings were in the 2000/01 season, with the Magpies also winning both home and away.
Quotes
Coventry manager Frank Lampard:
“We are a team with a lot of players having their first stint in Premier League football. Not everyone is a Wayne Rooney or a superstar that can just own it. This can now hopefully give us confidence. The boys today have shown they can do it.”
