2022/23 English Premier League

Matchday 11

Liverpool v Manchester City

Anfield
Liverpool, England
Sunday, 16 October 2022
Kick-off is at 16h30

Liverpool will attempt to halt a five-game winless run against Manchester City in the Premier League when they lock horns at Anfield on Sunday, October 16.

The Reds pushed City all the way last season before losing out on the title by a single point, but they have struggled to replicate that form thus far in the new campaign.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost 3-2 to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday, which left them in 10th place and without a win in their last three matches.

The 2019/20 champions already trail their upcoming opponents by 13 points and Klopp admits he is concerned by their loss of form, but has urged his players to keep fighting.

"So we have problems in the moment but because the team in form, the leader of the table ... even in a really bad situation for us with early changes of stuff, we caused them real problems, so that's the truth as well," the German said after the defeat to the Gunners.

"Of course, in a situation like ours, we play Arsenal ... and then we play Man City, is that the perfect opponent for finding confidence back? Probably not. But we will go out there and fight and that's what we have to do and that's what we will do.

"And we are not here for being happy with the situation we are in and stuff like this and thinking about last year and nearly there and nearly there - not at all, nobody of us is like that."

City maintained their unbeaten start to proceedings with a comprehensive 4-0 home victory against Southampton on Saturday, which kept them within a point of the league leaders.

It was their fourth win on the spin in the top flight, with Erling Haaland on target once more to take his tally for the season to a remarkable 15 goals.

Pep Guardiola has hailed Haaland for bringing the best out of Kevin De Bruyne, who registered his ninth assist of the season in setting up Phil Foden's goal on 32 minutes.

"For Kevin - especially Kevin - to have this threat, pace and movement in behind helps a lot," Guardiola said.

"He made plenty of assists but he could play better today - this was not the best Kevin we know. He was not in the position we should find him but Kevin has Julian [Alvarez], Phil and these players who make movements in behind."
