Vieira, who took over the reins at Palace before the start of the current campaign, enjoyed nine successful years at Arsenal as a player but will now be aiming to cause an upset as Eagles boss.

Palace go into the weekend in 14th spot on the league standings having come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Leicester City before the international break.

Arsenal recovered from a dreadful start to the campaign with three straight wins before a 0-0 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of October.

"We didn't make enough right decisions, every time there was a duel where we could escape pressure and attack open spaces we came up short and against this structure we had to do better," Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, said in the aftermath of their result at Amex Stadium.

"We have conceded one goal in the last five games which is really positive ... we can now focus on the things we are doing well and work on the ones we need to improve," Arteta added.

Arsenal took four points off the Eagles last season. They followed a 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium with a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park in a game in which Nicolas Pepe scored a brace.
