Aston Villa v Manchester United

Unai Emery will take charge of Aston Villa for the first time when they welcome a resurgent Manchester United to Villa Park on Sunday, November 6.

The Spaniard was announced as Villa's new manager on October 24 after Steven Gerrard had been sacked in the wake of their 3-0 defeat to Fulham four days earlier.

First-team coach Aaron Danks oversaw the heavy 4-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday as Emery was still awaiting his work permit to begin work in the West Midlands.

Danks conceded the Villans were made to pay for not taking their chances on Tyneside after producing a promising opening 45 minutes, with the Magpies killing them off with three goals in the second half.

"The league is ruthless, and you have to take your chances when you have your moments," he said. "Unfortunately for us, it didn't fall our way and we didn't get to be clinical and ruthless.

"You see a club in Newcastle that are flying high and everything they hit goes in; they're in a really good moment.

"We could have maybe taken our chances a bit better, but I thought the players applied themselves really well in that first half and it was a really good contest to begin with."

The Red Devils moved up to fifth in the standings courtesy of a 1-0 win over West Ham last Sunday, with Marcus Rashford bagging his 100th goal for the club.

Erik ten Hag's side are now unbeaten in their last five league outings, having won three of those to keep pace with Newcastle (4th) and Tottenham (3rd) directly above them.

David de Gea is back to his best after pulling off fantastic saves to deny Michail Antonio, Declan Rice and Kurt Zouma in the second half, leading to praise from Ten Hag, who saw his defence keep a fifth clean sheet of the season.

"Football is team sport, you do it together," the Dutchman said. "That is of course in possession but definitely out of possession.

"It's about defending your goal and you do it together, and I am happy I see also individual performances like David De Gea: magnificent today with the saves he makes in the end. We are quite good defending our box and have a brilliant goalkeeper.

"But you do it together, you start in front but then, finally, you have to protect the box and how we do it how we are supporting each other, how we are covering each other, how we motivate each other I'm really happy with that process."
