Napoli, Roma in top-four battle

SSC Napoli are set to travel to the Stade Olimpico where they will take on Lazio in an Italian Serie A match on December 20.
 
Napoli will be desperate for a victory after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan away in their previous match.
 
Currently placed fifth on the league standings, Napoli will be up against a Lazio side which was held to a 1-1 draw by Benevento away in their last game.
 
The last league meeting between Napoli and Lazio was on 1 August 2020 and Napoli secured a 3-1 win over Lazio at the San Paolo (now known as Estadio Diego Armando Maradona).

Kalidou Koulibaly, the Napoli defender, remains hopeful that they can compete with the top teams in Serie A despite their defeat to Inter.
 
"We played with personality and we deserved at least the draw. We created the chances and I think our performance is full of positive things," Koulibaly said. 
 
"I'm so sorry for how things went. The episodes didn't reward us, but this is the way both as a game and as a mentality. 
 
"The championship is long, there are many games and we must react immediately and resume our journey."
 
Meanwhile, AS Roma are expected to travel to the Gewiss Stadium where they are scheduled to take on Atalanta on December 20.
 
The Italian giants will be targeting their third successive win in this competition having recorded a 3-1 victory over Torino at home in their last match.
 
Roma, who are placed fourth on the league standings, will take on an Atalanta side which held Juventus to a 1-1 draw away in their previous game.

Atalanta secured a 2-1 win over Roma in the last league meeting between the two teams which took place on 15 February 2020 at the Gewiss Stadium. 
 
Lastly, Hellas Verona, who are placed seventh on the league standings, will be away to Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on December 19.
 
Verona have been the surprise package this season and they will be looking to return to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Sampdoria at home in their last game.
 
The former Italian champions will square off with a Fiorentina side which is coming off a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo at home in their previous match.
 
The last time the two teams met in a league game was on 12 July 2020 and the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
