2025/26 English Premier League

Matchday 38

Liverpool v Brentford

Selhurst Park

London, England

Sunday, 24 May 2026

Kick-off is at 17h00

You can expect fireworks when Liverpool play host to Brentford at Anfield on the final day of the season on Sunday, May 24.

The Reds will be looking to ensure UEFA Champions League qualification, while the Bees have an outside chance of making it into the UEFA Conference League or the Europa League.

Arne Slot's side could still finish fourth in the Premier League despite suffering a 4-2 defeat against Aston Villa on May 15 which left them winless in their last three matches.

The Merseyside giants trail the Villans by three points in fifth place albeit with a superior goal difference and Unai Emery's team face a tricky trip to Manchester City in the final round.

Keith Andrews has done a remarkable job since replacing Thomas Frank at the helm in the off-season and could yet secure the club's best-ever finish in the top flight.

That was achieved by Frank in 2022-23 (9th) and the Dane guided the West Londoners to a 10th-placed finish last term before he took with the reins at Tottenham.

A 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on May 17 saw Andrews' side drop below Chelsea on goal difference in ninth spot, but a seventh-placed finish is possible if results elsewhere go their way.

Brentford arrested a five-match losing streak against Liverpool with a 3-2 triumph in the reverse fixture at the Brentford Community Stadium on October 10.

Slot acknowledged that the loss at Villa Park meant that they need three points against the Bees to take all other equations off the board in the race for Champions League football.

"Damaging because we needed either a win or maybe, maybe, maybe two draws would have been enough as well," he said.

"But now we know one thing for sure - that we need a win next week if we have to do it ourselves. As we all know, other teams, of course, need to pick up points as well for us to need a win.

"So that's really damaging that we were not able to get a result, let alone a win here today. There were parts in the game where I felt a result could have gone our way."
