Lazio will look to secure their place in Europe when they welcome relegation-threatened Lecce to the Stadio Olimpico in the final round of the
Serie A season on Sunday, May 25.
The Eagles held title hopefuls Inter Milan to a 2-2 draw on May 18 to strengthen their position in the top six, although they still face competition from Fiorentina (7th) and Bologna (8th) in the race for Europa League football.
Marco Baroni's side are three points ahead of La Viola and the Rossoblu in sixth position, but there is still an outside chance they could qualify for the UEFA Champions League after going unbeaten in their last eight matches.
The Eternal City outfit trail fourth-placed Juventus by just two points, while Roma are also in the mix as they're only one behind the Old Lady in fifth spot.
The Wolves boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 victory over Torino on May 18 which arrested a worrying 13-game winless run.
It was also their first clean sheet in 12 outings and lifted Marco Giampaolo's side out of the drop zone on goal difference ahead of Empoli, with both teams tied on 31 points.
Lecce have had some success in this match-up recently, winning three of their last six meetings, but Lazio emerged 2-1 victors in the reverse fixture on December 21.
Baroni is adamant that missing out on Europe's elite club competition won't diminish the progress made by his team this term, but he won't give up on the dream until the final whistle blows.
"We still have one match left, and it doesn't take away from the team's journey. I congratulated the boys because Inter have everything: strength, structure, quality," the Italian said.
"This is a league that is highly competitive. I believe the points average needed for Europe is 67. I focus on the team's path and we still believe until the very last second."
