The 2023 PGA Championship which is the 105th edition is set to take place in Pittsford, New York, USA between 18 and 21 May.
 
What to know about the tournament 
 
This event which is part of the PGA Tour, European Tour and Japan Golf Tour was established in 1916 and it is one of the four men's major championships in professional golf.
 
Since 2019, the tournament is played in May on the weekend before Memorial Day, as the season's second major following the Masters Tournament in April.
 
Tournament News
 
On Monday, 1991 champion John Daly withdrew from the 2023 PGA Championship due to injury. Stephan Jaeger replaced Daly in the field at Oak Hill Country.
 
Tournament organizers, PGA of America have named Jason Soucy as Championship Director of the 2025 PGA Championship, which will be played May 15-18 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
 
Favourites 
 
Justin Thomas will defend his PGA Championship title having also clinched the 2022 trophy. 
 
Thomas is set to face stiff competition from Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Cantlay who are all set to be part of the 156-player field.
 
Keegan Bradley, Pádraig Harrington, Brooks Koepka, Shaun Micheel, Phil Mickelson,  Jimmy Walker and Yang Yong-eun are some of the former PGA championship winners who will compete in Pittsford.

What Is At Stake 
 
The 2023 PGA Championship will offer Official World Golf Ranking points to the winner, with final points ratings determined ahead of the event teeing off on Thursday.
 
The tournament boasts a purse of $15 million and the winner of the event will earn their share of $2,7 million, while also receiving a historic and iconic Wanamaker trophy,

The PGA of America announced a new exemption category for the 2023 PGA Championship. 
 
Beginning with this year's event, the top three players on the International Federation Ranking List as of April 24 will earn exemptions into the field.
 
"This new category will help identify current or emerging international players who may not yet have had the opportunity to showcase their talents in the cauldron of a Major Championship setting,” said PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh. 
 
“It provides all players from these four International golf tours an opportunity to compete throughout their respective seasons to be rewarded by access into the PGA Championship."
