The Zambia Men’s Senior National Team clinched third place at the
4 Nations tournament by defeating Malawi 2-1 in the final match, while Malawi settled for the last position.
The tournament, hosted in Malawi, saw the participation of four nations: Malawi, the host country, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
In yesterday’s match against Malawi, significant changes were made to the starting lineup compared to the semifinals against Zimbabwe. Clatous Chama assumed the role of captain, and debutant Obino Chisala also made his appearance for the Senior National Team.
Captain Clatous Chama broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with a splendid free kick, and just two minutes later, Patson Daka extended Zambia's lead with a beautiful goal, assisted by Clatous Chama.
However, Malawi retaliated in the 24th minute when Chaziya's header found the back of the net, narrowing the scoreline.
In the second half, Malawi intensified their offensive efforts, putting Zambia under pressure. Making tactical substitutions, Malawi introduced Chawanangwa Kaonga and Robert Saizi, both from the Zambian Club Zanaco FC.
Despite Malawi's persistent attacks, they failed to equalize, and the match concluded with Zambia securing a 2-1 victory.
Zambia concluded the tournament with a victory, having lost their opening match to Zimbabwe in a penalty shootout (5-6), whereas Malawi endured a winless run, suffering defeat to Kenya (0-4) in their inaugural match.
In the tournament final held at Bingu National Stadium, Kenya emerged as champions by defeating Zimbabwe 3-1, with Zambia having previously played Malawi at the same venue.
The tournament served as vital preparation for the teams ahead of the upcoming FIFA window matches scheduled for June.
Kenya claimed the championship title of the 4 Nations Tournament, with Zimbabwe securing the second position.
