Francesco Bagnaia will be eager to become the first man to win back-to-back Italian MotoGP titles since Jorge Lorenzo between 2016 and 2015.

Most recent race

The Ducati Lenovo Team rider endured a disappointing race at the recent French MotoGP as the reigning MotoGP world champion was forced to retire.

The man nicknamed Pecco was in contention for the top positions, but a crash left the Italian Grand Prix motorcycle racer with zero points.

Pecco was in his element at last year's Italian MotoGP as he won the race despite an early collision - impressing in front of his family and friends.

It was the first and only time Bagnaia had managed to finish the Italian MotoGP as he was forced to retire in 2019 and 2021.

Why Bagnaia could win the Italian MotoGP

Despite his retirement from the French MotoGP, the 26-year-old is still placed at the top of the riders' standings.

Bagnaia will be eager to consolidate his spot at the top of the riders' standings by recording a win at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello.

What did he say?

"It was an unfortunate circumstance, a race incident that perhaps we could have avoided if Maverick had closed his line less and I had left more room to enter," Bagnaia said after the 2023 French MotoGP.

"But in any case, these are things that can happen. We met with the stewards, which was a positive meeting that will allow us to improve in the future.

"Today we were fast, and at that moment, I was waiting for the right moment to attack and then push, but unfortunately, it went like that, and I am sorry," he added.

"Now we have three weeks before the next race in Mugello, a crucial appointment on a circuit where we won a beautiful GP last year."
