After a frustrating opening day at the
2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, hosts Morocco will now turn their attention to DR Congo in their second Group A assignment on Wednesday evening.
The Atlas Lionesses commenced their WAFCON campaign with an eventful 2-2 draw with Zambia, despite dominating proceedings at the Olympic Stadium this past Saturday.
While Zambia put themselves ahead in the 27
th minute, courtesy of a strike by Racheal Kundananji, Morocco had to wait until the 87
th minute to level the scoreline as Chizlane Chebbak saved her nation from a damaging defeat on home soil.
Reflecting on the game, Morocco coach Jorge Vilda expects his side to improve as the tournament progresses.
“They kept a good rhythm, especially in the second half, in a match played at high intensity,” Vilda said.
“The substitutions helped us get back into it and draw level. This team will improve with every match.”

Over in Mohammedia, DR Congo recorded a tough 4-0 loss against Senegal in their opening Group A fixture at Stade El Bachir on Sunday.
DR Congo were no match for the Lionesses of Teranga on the day as braces by Mama Diop and Nguenar Ndiaye were enough for Senegal to go top of Group A after their first tie.
