Palmeiras v Chelsea

Chelsea will be hoping for the same outcome when they face Palmeiras for the second time in three years in the 2025 Club World Cup quarter-finals at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, July 5.

The Blues were crowned champions of the 2021 edition after beating the Big Green 2-1 in the final on 12 February 2022 which went to extra time and remarkably none of the 16 players who featured in that match are still at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca's side have won three of their opening four matches in the United States and they required an additional 30 minutes to see off Benfica in the round of 16, running out eventual 4-1 victors.

Pedro Neto is in the running for the top scorers award with three goals, placing him one behind Benfica winger Angel Di Maria, who has bowed out of the revamped intercontinental competition.
Palmeiras are still unbeaten in the FIFA showpiece, having edged Inter Miami to top spot in Group A on goal difference with a record of one win and two draws.

Abel Ferreira's side then overcame Brazilian rivals Botafogo in round of 16, with Paulinho's 100th-minute goal clinching a 1-0 win after extra time.
The Sao Paulo giants are bidding to reach the semi-finals for the third time, having lost 1-0 to UANL at the penultimate stage of the 2020 edition.

Maresca declared the victory over the Eagles as their best performance at the Club World Cup, although he admitted the two-hour storm delay affected the tempo of the game.

"I am very happy because we are in the last-eight teams of this fantastic competition," the Italian said.
"As I say, for 85 minutes, we didn't concede anything and had enough chances to win the game. The team was very good. It was one of our best performances in the last two weeks or the last month.

"The game was very good for 85 minutes but then we have a two-hour break and it's not the same game because you break the tempo. Two hours inside. We tried to go out and continue to play in the same way, but it's difficult."
