After making the quarter-final stage of the 2022 WAFCON showpiece, Botswana are highly motivated to go all the way in Morocco this year. Botswana last featured during the month of May, where they faced South Africa and Zambia in Interntaitoinal Friedly fixtures. Against Banyana, Botswana suffered a 3-2 loss at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on 28 May, before jotting down a 1-1 stalemate with Zambia at the same ground three days later.
With the upcoming tournament in mind, Botswana star Sedilame Maitumelo Bosija is of the thought that her side can mix it up with some of the best teams on the African continent.
“Honestly, there’s no pressure. For us, it’s more motivation,” Bosija said. “We always want to push hard to be like the likes of Zambia and South Africa. It shows that we too can compete at this level and maybe even qualify for the World Cup or reach the WAFCON finals.
With Algeria set to feature at the WAFCON for the sixth time in their history, The Fennecs head coach Farid Benstiti expressed his desire to give it his all in the competition.
“I’ve always said that one day I needed to give something back to Algeria, as a tribute to my father, my parents, and my family,” Benstiti said in May regarding his aspirations with The Fennecs.
“This flag on my chest represents my entire family. Algeria is written into my DNA, and into that of my children.”
