UEFA Women's Euro 2025

Quarter-finals

France v Germany

St. Jakob-Park

Basel, Switzerland

Saturday, 19 July 2025

Kick-off is at 21h00

France will be looking to match their showing at Euro 2022 at least when they lock horns with Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2025 at St. Jakob-Park on Saturday, July 19.

Les Bleues reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history three years ago before being eliminated by the very team opponents following a 2-1 defeat.

Laurent Bonadei's side have emerged as one of the title favourites after winning their opening three matches to secure top spot in Group D, while scoring an impressive 11 goals in the process - a feat only bettered by Spain in the tournament.

The French kicked off their campaign in Switzerland with a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over defending champions England before registering big wins against Wales (4-1) and the Netherlands (5-2).

Germany, who have lifted the trophy a record eight times - most recently in 2013, saw their perfect start at the European showpiece come to an end with a surprise 4-1 loss to Sweden on July 12.

Christian Wuck's side had began their title challenge by beating Poland 2-0 and followed it up with a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph against Denmark.

The DFB-Frauen narrowly missed out on glory in 2022 when they went down 2-1 to England after extra time in the final - the first time they had lost the decider.

Delphine Cascarino, who was named Player of the Match against the Dutch after bagging a quick-fire brace, revealed she stepped up her game in the second half after barely getting on the ball in the opening 45 minutes.

"I was feeling good, but I was also really frustrated in the first half because I barely touched the ball. So I was determined to do much better in the second half," Cascarino said.

"And the team was doing better too - we fixed a few small things at half-time, and then it all went well. In the second half, we were much more aggressive - and it showed."

Wuck admitted the 31-st-minute dismissal of Carlotta Wamser hurt their chances against the Blagult, but is confident his players will shake off the disappoint and refocus for the last eight.

"After the red card, we couldn't get back into the game. At 3-1 and one player down, it was clear we could not come back.

"In the second half, changing the system, I imagined we could get another chance or two but with the quality of the Sweden team it was impossible.

"Of course we are down at the moment but we will shake it off and we will be happy to play the quarter-finals no matter who the opponents are."
