Dustin Johnson will be keen to return to winning ways when he competes at the 2021 Open Championship.

The American superstar's five-month trophy drought has seen him slip down to second place on the Official World Golf Rankings with Jon Rahm leapfrogging him.

Johnson's last win came at the 2021 Saudi International in February this year and the tournament is part of the European Tour.

The 37-year-old has won two major championships, the 2016 U.S Open at Oakmont Country Club and the 2020 Masters Tournament.

Johnson has also six World Golf Championships victories, with only Tiger Woods having won more, and he is the first player to win each of the four World Golf Championship events.

The man nicknamed DJ finished in a tie for second at the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St George's Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, England.

Northern Irishman Darren Clarke won the 2011 Open Championship by three strokes ahead of runners-up Johnson and Phil Mickelson.

Johnson, who has been named PGA Tour Player of the Year twice, feels that his form has improved ahead of this year's Open Championship.

“It’s getting better. But for me, I feel like a lot of it just has to do with I just haven’t putted very well. At Augusta I did not putt good at all," Johnson said.

"That’s kind of been the trend or the reason why I’ve just been struggling a little bit is more just with the putting. “I feel like it’s getting better, starting to roll it down my line a little bit more and making some putts.”

Harry Vardon is the most decorated player in the history of The Open Championship having won six titles, while South Africa's Ernie Els has won the tournament twice.
