Matchday 22

Tottenham v Arsenal

Bragging rights will be up for grabs when Tottenham do battle with Arsenal in the 205th North London derby on January 16 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs remain unbeaten in the Premier League under Antonio Conte, who will get his first taste of this fiery fixture, which the Gunners won on the previous two occasions.

Nuno Espirito Santo was at the helm when they lost 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on September 26 and it was the beginning of the end for the former Wolves head coach, who was sacked six weeks later.

Conte's side has won five of the eight matches he has overseen, most recently beating Watford 1-0 on New Year's Day.

The Italian highlighted the importance of rotating his squad during the busiest time of the season to give them every chance of challenging for the top-four.

"We are having a tough period, a busy period, seven games in 20 days," Conte said on N17 Live. "I know very well that when you have such a busy period, it's not easy.

"You can feel the fatigue. At the same time, especially for this reason, when you play in England, you have to be competitive, you have to have a good squad, and make substitutions and rotate."

Their arch-rivals ended 2021 on a high after recording four successive wins to climb above city neighbours West Ham into fourth place.

Mikel Arteta was not in the dugout for the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on New Year's Day after he tested positive for COVID-19.

First-team coach Albert Stuivenberg stood in for the Spaniard on the day and said they had spoken about the performance of the players with pride after the clash.

"Yes, I was in touch with him at the end," Stuivenberg told Arsenal Media. "He's very proud of the performance of the players, he really enjoyed the game, but of course also he's very frustrated that we don't end up with three points because at the end it's all about that."
