Gli Azzurri fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat away to Genoa last weekend, after having beaten the same opponents 6-0 earlier this season.

Napoli head coach Gennaro Gattuso cut a frustrated figure in the aftermath as his team fell 12 points behind the league leaders.

“We basically created the two goals against ourselves," Gattuso told DAZN. "We’re doing this a lot at the moment and that hurts, because our losses are basically photocopies of each other.

“It’s an issue of posture, when moving the ball around at the back, you need to be in the right position to accept the pass or you get caught out. We’re in trouble, because these are basic errors.

“We have to work on it. The excuse is that we’re not training, we are only recovering between games, but we’re not the only ones in this situation."

Defending Serie A champions Juventus beat Roma 2-0 for a third straight win to remain seven points off the pace.

Bianconeri head coach Andrea Pirlo is satisfied with his team's run of improved performances and reserved special praise for his defence after they kept another clean sheet, a third in a row.

"We'd prepared for this sort of game," said Pirlo. "In the reverse fixture, Roma employed the same tactic against us and this time we wanted to turn the game on its head tactically.

"Morale is high. Defensively we're strong and we're more alert than we were before.

"You learn from matches and defeats. You learn something from every game, especially as it's so tactical in Italy and you can't play every game the same way."

This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in Serie A this season following the postponement of the reverse fixture set for Turin earlier this season, while Juventus beat Napoli 2-0 in the Supercoppa final last month.
