Fulham, Villa set for FA Cup thriller

2019/20 FA Cup

Third Round Proper (Last 64)

4-6 January 2020

Championship club Fulham and Premier League side Aston Villa will meet for a potential FA Cup Third Round thriller at Craven Cottage in London on Saturday 4 January 2020, kick-off at 17:01.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith

Fulham come into the clash on the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Reading in the Championship in midweek, though they remain well placed in the promotion playoff zone of the second tier.

“We need to learn from this. The players need to understand my message and where I’m coming from and what’s needed. We’ve been in this position numerous times this year – we need to go again and bounce back,” said manager Scott Parker.

Villa, meanwhile, moved out of the relegation zone of the Premier League with a clutch 2-1 away win at Burnley on Wednesday, thanks to goals from Wesley and Jack Grealish.

“We haven’t been great on the road this season, our points tally is there for all to see, so we knew we had to come here today and be prepared to roll our sleeves up. I could see the look in the lads’ eyes today that they were ready and first half especially I thought we were excellent,” said Villa boss Dean Smith.

Villa captain Jack Grealish

In head-to-head stats, Fulham and Villa have met in 52 previous matches. Each club has claimed 18 wins in the rivalry, while 16 games have been drawn.

The last clash between the Cottagers and the Lions was in the Championship in May 2018, with the London side winning 1-0 in Birmingham. The teams last met in the FA Cup in 1999, with Fulham winning 2-0 at Villa Park.
