2022/23 Italian Serie A

Matchday 23

Spezia Calcio v Juventus

Stadio Alberto Picco
La Spezia, Italy
Sunday, 19 February 2023
Kick-off is at 19h00

Spezia Calcio will face off with Juventus FC in an Italian Serie A match at the Stadio Alberto Picco on February 19.

Current Form

The Little Eagles managed to hold Empoli FC to a 2-2 draw away on February 11 to extend their winless run to four matches in the league.

Spezia are also winless in their last seven matches at home having recorded four draws and three defeats at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

While Juventus edged out ACF Fiorentina 1-0 at home on February 12 and they are now undefeated in their last two Serie A matches - second succesive win.

The Old Lady have won two of their last three matches on the road while the other game ended in a defeat to SSC Napoli on January 13.

What Is At Stake

Spezia are looking to avoid relegation from the Italian top-flight as they are placed 17th on the league standings - five points above the relegation zone.

The Little Eagles will move further away from the bottom three spots if they defeat Juventus who have hit form.

Meanwhile, Juventus are placed ninth on the league standings and a win over Spezia would boost the Old Lady's hopes of securing a top four finish this term.

Team News

Spezia have one of the biggest injury-lists in the Serie A as Jeroen Zoet, Jacopo Sala, Szymon Zurkowski, Viktor Kovalenko, João Moutinho, M'Bala Nzola and Simone Bastoni are all out injured.

On the other hand, the Juventus trio of Paul Pogba, Fabio Miretti and Arkadiusz Milik are all injured, while Kaio Jorge is expected to make his return from injury on February 14.

Key Players

With Nzola and Bastoni injury doubts, Spezia will look to Daniele Verde who grabbed a brace against Empoli and he will be confident of scoring against the Old Lady.

While Adrien Rabiot scored the winning goal against Fiorentina and the French star will be looking to play an important role in helping Juventus record another win.

Quotes

"We had chances aplenty, but Fiorentina could’ve found the equaliser. At times our defending was sloppy. That being said we played well and fought hard, I’m happy with how the lads performed," Juventus manager Massimliano Allegri said.

"Right now it’s hard to set specific objectives but we’re just aiming to bounce back and then think about the Europa League. Fiorentina were dangerous up front and in general they played well. We need to adapt to our current situation.

"We’re one point off seventh place, potentially second in the league, but what’s important is to set short-term goals and achieve them. That way we’ll improve and be inspired to go further," he continued.

"Our fans are a great help and give us a needed boost. However there’s no need for them to boo the lads, it’s disrespectful."

Head-to-Head

Juventus brushed aside Spezia 2-0 in their last meeting in the league which was on 31 August 2022 at the Allianz Stadium..

The win extended the Old Lady's unbeaten run against the Little Eagles to five matches in the Serie A having recorded five consecutive victories.
