Defending champion Viktor Hovland will be keen to emulate Tiger Woods by winning back to back Hero World Challenge titles.

The Norwegian star, who is based in Oklahoma, USA, won last year's event, finishing at 18 under par, one shot ahead of Scottie Scheffler.

Key moments in this win were back-to-back eagles in the final round on holes 14 and 15, and ultimately, Hovland emerged victorious.

This win cemented Hovland's new nickname as the "Resort King" of golf, as his first five professional wins were outside of the Contiguous United States, four of which around the Caribbean Sea.

The Resort King is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour having become the first Norwegian to win on the PGA Tour when he won the Puerto Rico Open in February 2020.

In December 2020, Hovland picked up his second PGA Tour win, and his first at a full-strength PGA Tour tournament, by birdieing the 72nd hole at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

The 25-year-old then successfully defended the World Wide Technology Championship in November 2021 and he will now be looking to retain the Hero World Challenge.

Accepting the Hero World Challenge trophy from Tournament Host, Woods, Hovland had a good showing in the other event hosted by Woods, finishing T5 at the 2021 Genesis Invitational.

“I remember sitting in the classroom just watching highlights on YouTube,” Hovland said of Woods.

“He definitely inspired me and helped me in that way, but watching his highlights kind of make it seem even more farfetched because you’re going to be competing against this guy when you get on Tour hopefully.

"It was more like I made it more of a dream.”

Woods is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Hero World Challenge with five titles since the tournament's formation in 2000.
