Barcelona will look to justify their tag as favourites when they head to Old Trafford for a first-leg, quarterfinal clash against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, 10 April 2019. Kick-off is at 21h00.
Barca earned their place in the last eight of the competition with a 5-1 aggregate triumph over French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon.
The first leg in France ended in a goalless stalemate, but the Blaugrana turned one the style in the return game at the Camp Nou, racking up a 5-1 triumph thanks to two goals from Lionel Messi, as well as strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele.
With Messi (who has an amazing 42 goals and 21 assists from 39 appearances across all competitions thus season) in his team, Barca manager Ernesto Valverde will head to Old Trafford confident of a positive result, even if his team had the disadvantage of playing a key La Liga clash against Atletico Madrid on a weekend which United had off.
The teams have met in 11 European matches, with Barcelona claiming four wins compared to United’s three, while three games have been drawn.
Their most recent meeting was in the final of the Champions League in May 2011, with the Blaugrana winning 3-1 at Wembley Stadium thanks to goals from Pedro, Lionel Messi and David Villa.
