It has been a slow return to top golf tournaments for World Number two Rory Mcllroy during the last couple of months with the prolific star hoping to return to his old self at the Tour Championship this week.
The Northern Island golfer recently featured at the BMW Championship where he came in at third position at the Bellerive Golf Course this past Sunday.
Prior to the BMW Championship, Mcllroy finished 66th from 69 players at the FedEx St. Jude earlier this month, where he happened to appear in his first tournament since the Open Championship in July.
Mcllroy’s only win on the PGA Tour this year came at the Masters Tournament in April, where he placed one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
Nonetheless, Mcllroy now believes that he is way off the pace regarding his ambitions after coming up short in his last two tournaments.
"I'm so far away from where I need to be to even feel like I have a chance. I've just got to keep working and hope it turns around a little bit," said McIlroy.
"Obviously I didn't come in here with a ton of reps. It almost felt like the more the week went on the more I felt lost with my golf swing.
"I guess it was nice to shake the rust off a little bit but I'm going to have to work pretty hard to feel like I have any sort of golf game to compete. To me it's more about the execution of what I'm doing right now, and the execution wasn't there."
