After narrowly missing out on the
Serie A title last season, Inter Milan will no doubt hope to challenge for the 2025/26 crown, starting with their tie against Torino next Monday.
Inter ended the 24/25 league season just one point behind eventual winners Napoli, while the Italian giants also went all the way to the UEFA Champions League final. Following their embarrassing 5-0 loss against PSG in the UCL final, Inter then competed in the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup where they suffered a 2-0 loss against Fluminense in the Round of 16.
Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri were immaculate in their pre-season preparations and bagged consecutive victories against Monaco, Monza and Olympiacos respectively. Torino, who finished in 11
th in Serie A last season, played a total of five friendly matches ahead of the new league campaign.
Torino will now go into the game against Inter on the back of losses to Monaco (2) and Valencia, while they started their pre-season fixture list with a 1-1 draw against Ingolstadt and also, a 4-1 win against Cremonese.
Reflecting on Inter’s ambitions for the new season, Cristian Chivu hopes that the Italian juggernauts will return to the top of European football in the near future.
"We never look to the past; we’re not seeking revenge. We focus on the present and the future,” Chivu said.
“This team, despite its ups and downs, has been built to be at the top, and that’s where it must stay, regardless of the titles we win. We’ll always give everything to reach our goals, but of course, it’s the facts that count more than words.
“This club is united and determined to make its mark and remain at the top of Italian, European, and world football."
