2022 Wyndham Championship

US PGA Tour

Sedgefield Country Club
Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
3-7 August 2022

The 2022 Wyndham Championship is set to take place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro between 3 and 7 August.

Founded 84 years ago in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, the tournament is part of the PGA Tour schedule.

The event was usually played in April or May until a schedule change in 2003 moved it toward the end of the season.

In 2007, the event was renamed the Wyndham Championship when Wyndham Hotels & Resorts took over from DaimlerChrysler as title sponsor.

The current champion is Kevin Kisner as he outsmarted Branden Grace, Kim Si-woo, Kevin Na, Adam Scott and Roger Sloan in a playoff round.

Kisner, Henrik Stenson, Jason Day, Webb Simpson, Billy Horschel, Justin Rose, Shane Lowry and Francesco Molinari are all set to headline this year's field which will be playing for a $7,3 million purse.

However, European star Tommy Fleetwood withdrew following his mother’s death, and two-time champion Brandt Snedeker withdrew due to injury.

It is the last PGA Tour event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, as one last chance to qualify for the FedEx Cup and retain their tour privileges if not already exempt.

This will be the first tournament at the Sedgefield Country Club with no COVID restrictions since the pandemic and the event's executive director Mark Brazil said as they prepared the course for its full return.

“It’s the PGA tours technology platform that gives you all the information on everyone’s shot. It’s gathered and sent to the PGA media platforms. And you’re right on top of the action so you see great golf," Brazil said.

“On every hole, we have a team that manages the hole to protect the players from fans going out there. It’s a just-in-case policing of the holes to make sure everything goes smoothly."

Sam Snead is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Wyndham Championship having won eight titles in 1938, 1946, 1949, 1950, 1955, 1956, 1960 and 1965.
