McLaren's Oscar Piastri will look to keep the pressure on team-mate Lando Norris at the
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday, April 20 after his historic win in Sakhir.
The Australian led the Bahrain Grand Prix from start to finish as he claimed his fourth career victory and the first for McLaren in 21 attempts on the Bahrain International Circuit.
Piastri was on course to take the lead in the Drivers' Championship standings, only for Norris to secure P3 after an intense battle with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in the closing stages which saw the Brit go three points clear of his title rival.
The 24-year-old driver has now won two of the four races in 2025 to open up a five-point gap to Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen, who could only manage a P6 following his first triumph of the season in the Japanese Grand Prix.
Piastri was all smiles afterwards and expressed pride in his achievement, while thanking the team for putting him in this position with the work they've done on the MCL39.
"It's great to have this result out here. It's been an incredible weekend, starting off with Qualifying yesterday. To finish the job today in style was nice," Piastri said.
"I can't thank the team enough for the car they've given us - it's pretty handy out there. It's been a great weekend, and I'm very proud of what I've done this weekend as well.
"I'm very proud to do it here in Bahrain as well, it's obviously a very important race for us given our owners. It's never been a track that's been kind to us, so it's nice to finally have that first win for the team here."
