The defeat to Barcelona also ended the Whites' 24-match unbeaten run at home in La Liga having registered 17 victories and seven draws as the hosts.

"The win is really important. Celta are always tough to play against at their ground. All the games I’ve played here it’s been tough," Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said after their win over Celta.

"I don’t know if we deserved to win, because in the first half I made a couple of good saves. We then went into their area and got three penalties. All three were (penalties) and that’s all there is to it. Celta move the ball around really well and play with a lot of intensity.

"In the first half we didn’t put them under enough pressure. They played through the centre and dominated, but in the end, we pulled it off. They are three very important points."

Meanwhile, Getafe claimed a 1-0 win over Real Mallorca at home in their most recent league game which was played on April 2.

However, Getafe are winless in their last 18 matches on the road in La Liga having recorded eight draws and 10 defeats as the visitors.

The last league meeting between Madrid and Getafe was on 2 January 2022.

Getafe edged out Madrid 1-0 in a match that took place at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez which was named after former Spain international Alfonso Pérez, who was born and raised in Getafe.
