Villarreal have the chance to go level with La Liga leaders Real Madrid for a few hours at least when they take on Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on Sunday, November 30 in the early kick-off.
The Yellow Submarine have been the closest challengers to Los Blancos and Barcelona since the season got underway and they are looking to really ramp up the pressure on matchday 14.
Marcelino's side beat Real Mallorca 2-1 on November 22 to make it four wins in a row and close within three points of Real, who could only manage a 2-2 draw with 10-man Elche.
The Blaugrana play before both teams and could occupy top spot by the time the Castellon outfit travel to the Basque Country.
Erreala's form has improved in the last two months and they have climbed into the top half of the table after going unbeaten in their last five matches.
A 3-1 victory over Osasuna on November 23 saw Sergio Francisco's side collect 11 points since losing 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano which has lifted them up to 10th position, level with Sevilla (9th), Elche (11th), Celta Vigo (12th) and Los Franjirrojos (12th) on 16 points.
Marcelino insists he has complete trust in his squad and has urged the players to keep the momentum going after making their best-ever start to a campaign in the Spanish top flight.
"It's only three points, but it feels like more. We scored early, they equalised immediately, and it wasn't an easy game," the Spaniard said.
"29 points - step by step, with humility. I want to congratulate and thank the players, who give everything regardless of the minutes they play. La Liga doesn't end today; we have to keep winning.
"What happens in the boxes will determine who wins, but what is beyond any doubt is that I trust this squad completely."
