Matchday 38

AC Milan v Cagliari

As a side seeking to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, AC Milan could secure a place in Europe’s elite with victory against Cagliari at home on Sunday.

Milan recently overturned a two-match losing streak by securing a 2-1 win against Genoa on away grounds during Matchday 37.

The iconic Italian side have now accumulated 70 points, two points within the Champions League spots with one game left to play.

As for their form over the last five matches, Milan recorded two wins, two losses and one draw, while their upcoming opponents noted the same record in the same number of games.

However, Cagliari will enter Matchday 38 on the back of a 2-1 win over Torino, taking their tally to 40 points for the campaign. Also, Cagliari avoided an awkward relegation scrap late on in the season as they trail the drop zone by six points.

With Milan chasing European football, Massimiliano Allegri urged his team to remain focused at the task at hand, while giving Gian Piero Gasperini his flowers for getting AS Roma into the top four.

"There was a lot of pressure, and we ran the risk of throwing away everything we had built during this year," Allegri said.

"We haven't achieved anything yet. There is one more game to play on home turf against Cagliari, and we hope to do it then.

"I have to thank my players, those who work and have to stay close to me, who have to put up with me. There is a week to go before the objective is secured.

"Until we get to the finish line, we've always got to be alert. Gian Piero Gasperini has done a great job at Roma, a place that is very difficult to work in, and it's a natural progression of his career."
