George Russell will look to bounce back strongly at the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix and successfully defend his crown.

The Mercedes driver finished fourth in the Miami Grand Prix, 43 seconds behind race winner Kimi Antonelli, after struggling with pace.
Russell started from the front row but dropped back after the first stint, citing difficulties with tyre management and balance on the hot Miami track.
Formula One ambitions
The 28-year-old sits second in the World Drivers' Championship standings with 80 points after four races.
Russell trails teammate and championship leader Antonelli (100 points) by 20 points, Charles Leclerc is third with 59 points.

Russell has a strong record in Canada — he won the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix from pole and has taken back-to-back poles at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The 2017 GP3 Series champion returns to one of his favourite tracks in Formula One and Mercedes is expected to bring updates that should suit the fast, flowing layout well.

"A difficult race. The beginning felt OK. Those early laps I was in the fight, then the hard tyre I was nowhere," Russell said after the 2026 Miami GP.
"I got some ideas in the last 10 laps. We were much more competitive. I made some quite big changes with my differentials and brake bias and was much closer to what Kimi was running this whole weekend, and it made a bigger impact than I thought.
"Not a good weekend. I know this place is a real tough one for me. The real test will come at the next few."
